Rescuing my stolen laptop with RescueTime - Day 2

I have been checking and waiting for her to log in, but she is not logging in. I kept refreshing the rescuetime dashboard and I can see that the computer is not on yet [last report was 18 hours before].

I went through her friends profile and added quite a few friends. And some of the friends were starting to  confirm my request. Then suddenly I see one of the friend has deleted me and put me in the ignore list. That got me upset because if you are not in the wrong side, why do you  have to do that? And while I was still waiting, I see she is not adding me.

So I logged in back in the dashboard and found that she did go through my profile and liwan's profile too.

But she still did not add me. By then, I was starting to get upset. So I sent her a msg. And interestingly, she replied real quick.

After that one of her friend called and we spoke over phone for a while. I understand her situation as her mom is computer illiterate and did not know the value of it. The guy owed her mom RM 1800 so he traded with the laptop. I told her the laptop cost way more as the current price is close to RM 10,000.

After the discussion we decided to meet up and I will be meeting her soon and hopefully we can come to a solution.

Regardless of what the solution comes up, I am very thankful to rescuetime for not only rescuing my time, but also saving my laptop and my data.

On top of that, I emailed rescueTime and even during the christmas back, Joe Hruska - Founder & CTO RescueTime, Inc emailed me back with the IP address and other details. Just wow.

I am surely buying the pro plan once I pay of my credit card bill to activate my card again. Thanks again rescueTime and liwan for great help.

Update: I have spoken to her again and she will be coming to MMU to return it sometime this week. We will go to police station to report about the guy who stole it. Since they also cant contact the guy anymore we have no choice but to report police. At least police will be able to find out from the phone no he was using.

Update 2: I met up with the girls in midvalley starbucks today (31st December 2009). They are really really nice. They apologized a lot of times for the trouble. I am just very thankful that I got it back. Unfortunately the girl's mom does not want to make report about the guy because she is afraid that since her shop is really small and is in not very city area, the guy's friend might come to disturb them. I wish I could report about the guy, but I understand their situation too. It is easy for me to say go report, but if really that guy's other criminal friends trouble them I would not know what to do. So, I will just go and inform police that I got my things back.

Thanks everyone for your support. Really appreciate it.

Rescuing my stolen laptop with RescueTime - Day 1

So my laptop was stolen from my house middle of the night on 8th December. Therefore it was no surprise that my RescueTime (a software I installed to check my own productivity) email started to say they cant get any data from my computer.

Therefore, I was quite shocked to get the email last night saying my rescuetime is working again and I was not very productive. Really? Wow. Is it totally empty and thus not productive or someone is using my pc now?

I immediately went to check my dashboard. And vola!!! the thief must have sold it to someone else!! How cool !!! Not even a week and it already went to the market, and is already bought by someone and is working full swing!!! Who says things does not work fast here?

But wait a minute? What on earth is xunlove.com ? First thought - a porn site? So I went to the site and found it is a chinese site. Made a quick google translate and found it is something to do with romantic novel writing.
So my thief is a writer. How brilliant!!!! He steals pc to write romantic novels. Wow.
So can I get more info of what he is looking at?

Oh no!!! I am using free version. Can I upgrade!!! Oh gosh. I have totally used up my credit limit to buy my new macbook. =( Can I still see the posts?

At that point of time I was getting really frustrated. Why did not I buy the pro package. And suddenly got the solution - referrals. I immediately sent to liwan and asked her to sign up. Once she signed up I got two weeks of pro access. Cool. Anyone who is reading it, please get the pro version. It is totally worth it.

So, here both me and liwan are now looking at what the person have done. First thing first, the folders.

Ok, so the names of the person is probably the same as the pendrive. Since I am not sure yet if this is the person who stole the laptop, I will blur the name first. But lets use this information to check with his other details now.

So going in more details I see the one of the most used one is facebook. Can I get his identity of that?

So I am now going through the facebook list and I start to find interesting similarities.

For not publishing the name, I have skipped few more facebook screenshots that I got. And after going through all of the details, I have concluded for now that this person is the one who is using it.

I also found that this is a girl, not a guy as I thought at first. And based on the rest of the details, I am quite sure that she bought it from someone who sold it saying this is a second hand laptop. I am very sure she does not know what is going on. I will need to find more info tomorrow.

Update: I wrote a second post on talking to her and more updates.

solution : iphone sdk not found in appcelerator titanium

This is the current solution of iphone sdk not found problem in latest titanium [as of Dec 2009]. For those of you who installed the xcode 3.1.4 from apple developer page along with iphone sdk you will face a problem with titanium.

Although xcode is installed, it thinks that it is not there. The reason probably is titanium thinks default Xcode installation directory in "/usr/bin". However, the latest xocde gets installed in xcode 3.1.4 directory. So the solution is (from the forum)

simply create a symlink to the default Xcode installation directory in "/usr/bin". In Terminal:
cd /usr/bin
sudo ln -s /Developer/usr/bin/xcodebuild xcodebuild
Once restarted Titanium, the green tick appeared.

Once done, you should see the iphone part getting green. For Android, I am using eclipse

Getting my mac

After my latop was stolen, I bought a new Macbook from Maccity today. Quite a good deal. If you are there, look for Amelia. Hopefully I will be able to do some iphone development with that. I was supposed to buy from Mr Rashidi, but finally went to buy a new macbook. It is quite nice and I am trying to get used it.
As an avid pc user, it is taking me some time to get used to it.
